The world of Social Media from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

OK, so I caved and binge-watched all the episodes of that romance scam. Then, I started to do some research. OH MY GOSH --- you would not believe it, but the amount of money involved in romance scams is HUGE!!!! I believe this statistic is worldwide to the tune of $1.3 billion (involving 70,000 people). That was in 2022, and the numbers are probably much higher. And that is of the people who came forward. How many others did not?

This is just for romance scams, not any of the other types of fraud. It is big business for ...

The Changing World of Social Media on Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

So this week, it was brought to my attention, how much social media has changed over the short life of the internet.   In the late 90's, it wasn't unusual to connect with other quilters on different sites including www.quilt.com.  There were also forums (Reddit type)  where you could ask questions and form groups.  I joined a quilt guild that was active but just virtually.  At the time,  it was all very new and

interesting.  I also belonged to two email groups (one traditional - one art quilt-based) where you would start a topic and people would chime ...

Paul's latest coffee Table

Shhhhhhh, can you keep a secret? My husband, Paul is turning 58 this week and I decided it was

The man, the myth

high time he got his own website.  You see he became a full-time artesian woodworker when he retired a couple of years ago and he really needs an online presence.  So with a lot of help from my daughter, Tessa, we put together a portfolio site.  A portfolio website is a site that is primarily there to showcase you and what you create.  Not only can it include a gallery of your ...

Bye, Bye Social Media from From the Strawberry Patch...

I have accepted a challenge to give up both Facebook and Instagram; at first it seemed hard, then I realized that my scrolling to those sites on my phone was purely habitual and not based on a need to know anything whatsoever. I can honestly say that in the last few weeks, the elapsed time since I have said good-bye to those two social media platforms, I have felt calmer and happier. I haven't

Time wasters! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Did any of you watch that Seinfeld episode about NOTHING? I watched it years ago, but there are some days when there is NOTHING to talk about. That's today!

Well, it's not exactly about nothing, as I am ripping through lots of projects that need to be sewn - I just can't share any with you yet. That's so ridiculous! I cut and sewed, cut and sewed, and cut and sewed some more, and I FINISHED the homework for today. There is still a bit to do with one of the quilts, but it's done enough ...

AGF Gift Of Giving Giveaway from Art Gallery Fabrics-The Creative Blog

IMG_2925_blog2

Today, I would love to talk about something a little different, deeper than just sewing, and it’s about the wonderful gift of giving. It was really important to us to give back, to give something that we made with our hearts and hands that people will love and appreciate. It’s that time of year when we come together, and give our loved ones something special!

Makers truly support each other, as we know the amount of love that goes into all our projects. With this in mind, I am so excited to announce that here at AGF we ...

Social Media Experiment from Tink Squared

I think I have weird chickens. Every time Jim or I muck out the coop and replace the bedding, the hens use all the nesting boxes to lay their eggs… for the first day. It’s like, “Hey look mom! New shoes! I can jump higher!” Do they think they can lay better? Faster?

And then they all go back to sharing just one box, like always.

What on earth does that have to do with social media? Nada. Zip. But it’s part of the little things in life I take pleasure in… again.

A week ago I decided ...

Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, Twitter, TikTok, SnapChat.

Do you get the feeling that you need to be everywhere on social media?

And then you worry that if you are, you’ll never get anything else accomplished?

You are not alone with that thought.

It does at times seem that everyone is everywhere. Just because it seems that way, it’s not really true.

And, you’re right, you won’t get anything done if you are always on social media.

The good news is that you can have a presence on social media and have it work for you. Here ...

Play your own game! from Professional Quilter

It’s football season!

That was reason to celebrate in my house. My husband is a football fan. He’s a fan of most sports. And our local team, The Washington Football Team, won.

It’s been interesting to watch is happening to sports in our time of COVID-19. We’ve seen stadiums and racing parks filled with cardboard cutouts of people. Fake crowd noise.

I live in a home where “Sports Center,” “Inside the NFL,” and similar shows are often on the television. I am sure some of you can relate. Most often they become “white noise” to me ...

COVID-19 got you down: 7 actions you can take now from Professional Quilter

Last week I wrote about “Business as Unusual.”

We are in uncharted waters. More of us are now under self-quarantine or shelter-in-place rules. Those of you who aren’t, you likely will be at some point. This is serious times.

Artists tend to look for ways they can help. As a quilter, I’ve seen the masses of textile folks make masks for hospitals and healthcare workers. You can find numerous resources online, particularly on YouTube. One resource I’ve found a good place to start is the page put together by artist, photographer, and writer Gloria Hansen. In addition ...

making great quilts - quality vs quantity from easypatchwork

Hi! Thanks for stopping by today. If you stopped by last week, you might know I am trying to blog again on a regular basis. I will be talking about all subjects that mean something to me or something that I think needs to be addressed in the quilting world.

This week, I would like to address the quality of our work. Great quality quilts take time to make. They require skilled hands, love, attention to detail. If we concentrate too much on the quantity of our quilts we make, the reality is, the quality of those quilts will suffer ...

Social Media Survey – The Results! from Christa Quilts

Thank you all so much for responding to my social media enquiry last week. The comments were overwhelmingly positive when I asked the question, “What is your favorite channel to interact with me?” I asked across all of my current platforms and wasn’t surprised to discover that the channel you are currently using is you favorite way to connect, of course! So the result is that I’m not going to get rid of any of them, but I’ll be much more intentional about what I share.

So for anyone who’s interested, scroll down for my new ...
